We're now four years into the remote work revolution. And by the looks of it, this new work model is here to stay.

The work-from-home revolution is “one of the major shifts in the U.S. labor market in the last couple decades. It's still kicking. It’ll probably be around for a long time," Nick Bunker, Indeed's economic research director for North America told CNBC last week.

Analysis of Indeed's Remote Work Tracker shows that the share of job postings that advertise remote and hybrid work is leveling off at around 7.8%, roughly three times higher than its level in 2019.

So, despite threats of returning back to the office, there are still companies that recognize and value the remote work model and understand how it is beneficial, not only for their workforce, but also for overall business gains, efficiency, and productivity.

What You Should Know

One thing to note about these companies—and many employers who are advocates of remote work or a remote-first culture—is that they are mainly within tech or are largely tech-enabled.

While this does not necessarily indicate that you will need to be a technical expert to successfully land a remote job, what it does mean is that it certainly helps if you have prior experience working within a tech or tech-enabled company. Your transferable experience shows that you understand the working environment and what the typical demands are on such a business.

So whether your previous role was a function in a fintech, or you held a role in sales for enterprise software products, your experience will go a long way and can be a great talking point for your job interview as well.

Finally, don't forget that your actions should coincide with your expectations. If you are on the lookout for remote-friendly companies, you should prepare your home office space to accommodate your new role.

Even if the company is giving you a stipend for your home office set-up, you should still think about what portion of your home you will dedicate to your work so that you can focus on your job with minimal distraction.
