Artificial intelligence is changing nearly every part of the hiring process—and job seekers are learning that simply using AI is no longer enough.
The real advantage now comes from knowing how to use it strategically.
From finding better-fitting opportunities to tailoring resumes, preparing for interviews, researching employers and organizing a job search, AI can dramatically reduce the amount of repetitive work involved in finding a new position.
But there is also a growing downside.
As AI makes it easier for candidates to apply to large numbers of jobs, recruiters are being flooded with applications. That means candidates who rely on generic AI-generated resumes, mass applications and automated messages may actually become less competitive.

That creates a new challenge: when both sides of the hiring process are using automation, simply submitting more applications doesn't necessarily create an advantage.
In fact, recruiters are beginning to push back against what some career experts call "doomjobbing"—repeatedly applying to large numbers of positions without a clear strategy. LinkedIn career experts instead recommend a more focused search built around skills, target roles, measurable accomplishments and professional relationships.

That difference can uncover occupations the candidate may never have considered.
One of the smartest uses of AI happens before the application is submitted.

AI can help candidates identify who they should contact and draft personalized outreach—but the relationship itself should remain human.
